FBI Job Openings

Thursday March 26, 2009

In an earlier post about job opportunities in forensic accounting, I should have added that the FBI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is another place to look. Indeed, the FBI has a longstanding policy of requiring that its agents have law and accounting degrees.

Sunday's New York Times business section confirms that the FBI has a increasing caseload of fraud investigations. It had over 1,600 open mortgage-fraud investigations as of September 30, 2008, the end of the federal fiscal year. By contrast, the number was 881 two years earlier. Meanwhile, 530 corporate-fraud investigations were open on September 30.

People with backgrounds in accounting or computer science are especially in demand by the FBI right now, as well as potential hires who speak foreign languages or those who hold credentials offered by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
