Have Business Schools Lost Their Way?

If you’re considering entering an MBA program, read this article in Harvard Business School’s Alumni Bulletin. Elite business schools are placing more stress on developing leaders than in teaching specific management skills and subject-area knowledge.

To advance in financial services, a strong grasp of technical knowledge will be of primary value in the long run. In the short run, however, the reputations of the educational institutions on your resume will govern you salability to the best employers. Additionally, the reputations of colleges, universities and graduate schools change slowly over time. What to do? Unfortunately, there are no pat answers, but be aware of the tradeoffs inherent in your choice of program.
