Money Manager

By Mark Kolakowski, About.com

Money Manager Career Overview: The management of investment pools such as mutual funds is a rapidly growing field. Indeed, the number of mutual funds rivals the total number of publicly traded companies. Beyond mutual funds, there are numerous private firms that manage money for their clients. Wall Street firms also offer money management options, as do banks, especially in their trust departments.

Strong analytic skills are a very important attribute of a successful money manager. Degrees in finance normally are strongly advised as a ticket to entering the field. Other certifications such as the CFA often are either suggested or required. The work is hard, fast-paced and requires long hours.
